Free Energy

Energy exists in many forms: kinetic, potential, thermal, electrical, nuclear, and so on. But ‘free’ energy is a particular form that is available to do work on a system, as opposed to ‘bound’ energy, which is not. Volatile compounds such as carbon-based fuels, for example, store lots of free energy that can be released to do useful work. The same holds true for the foods we eat which supply the free energy that drives all the biophysical work that keeps us alive, including the processes occurring in our brains that make us conscious. 

In this marbling piece I have used fluorescent pigments to create the intense oranges and pinks. They are highly efficient at reflecting light energy from the surface and transferring it to our eyes, which are sensitive to energies of different frequencies and intensities. The vividness of the colour in the original work is not so apparent in reproduction but is striking in person, even more so given the contrast with the complementary blues and greys. Fluorescent pigments are notoriously fugitive, especially in sunlight. Fortunately, the inks used to represent the fluorescent paints in this poster are much more permanent. This ensures that your poster will last many years without any yellowing or discolouration.
• Our poster is free from or low in OBA (optical brightener additives). This ensures that the natural white colour of the paper remains consistent under different lighting conditions. In contrast, the colour of papers that contain optical brighteners can shift depending on the light source. Additionally, the colour of OBA-free paper remains more consistent over time so that you can enjoy the poster for years without any shifts.
• We use FSC-certified paper or equivalent certifications depending on regional availability. It’s better for the people and the planet.
• Each poster is shipped in robust packaging, ensuring it arrives safe and secure.
• Paper sizes may vary slightly by region. For the US and Canada, the measurement is in inches, while for the rest of the world, it is in centimetres.
