Waves
Waves
Waves occur in many forms and at all scales throughout nature. They are usually caused when energy is added to a system of matter or medium such that the system reacts by periodically being pushed away from and recovering its equilibrium state. These periodic fluctuations move through space and time, carrying the energy with them. Since energy and Experience are intimately connected in the proposals made in What Matter Feels, we can think of waves as carriers of Experience as well as of energy.
The wave-like forms in this image exemplify a central principle of What Matter Feels, which is that energy + matter = form. The shapes of the waves are the product of the matter contained in the inks and paints and the various kinds of energy that is transferred to them, including the energy from my own body as I manipulated the surface of the marbling bath.
