Form

Why do objects around us have the forms that they do, and why certain forms recur so frequently in nature? In What Matter Feels I outline general principles that guide the evolution of forms due to the way matter interacts with energy as it is absorbed and dissipated. We can think of these forms as having a certain kind of geometry. But observing these systems from the outside tells us nothing about what it is like to be them from the inside. In the treatise, I show how the outer form of a system of matter (which we can see) complements its inner experiential form (which we cannot see). Mind has a geometry as well as matter. 

The simple triadic structure of this marbling piece is produced by large pools of ink and paint that lie on the surface of the marbling bath, and act upon each other until they reach a stable equilibrium. Creating relatively large forms like this can be difficult as it relies on the ink spreading widely and evenly and turns out to be much easier in warm weather when the bath and inks have greater thermal energy. Additionally, the colour of OBA-free paper remains more consistent over time so that you can enjoy the poster for years without any shifts.
